One of the projects we at Friday Media Group Foundation are happy to promote is The Shaun Bowden Land Rover Appeal and The Bowden Big Weekender.
The Bowden Big Weekender is a three day journey from Birmingham, England to Glencoe, Scotland – that aims to raise enough donations to fund a new 4×4 rescue vehicle for the Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team.
Taking place on Friday 3rd October to Sunday 5th October, the rally has been organised in memory of Shaun Bowden who sadly lost his life last year whilst walking in the mountain range. The Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team were fundamental in Shaun’s search and recovery. If you love a driving challenge why not join the event?
Date of Event: Friday 3rd– Sunday 5th October
Price: £50:00 per Adult and Children £10 (under 16) – every penny is going to charity!
Bobby Willis dreamt up the idea of the Bowden Big Weekender. His good friend and business partner Shaun Bowden died last March while walking in Scotland, leaving behind a young family. Bobby has since set up the Shaun Bowden Land Rover Appeal. https://www.facebook.com/BowdenLandRoverAppeal
“The Glencoe Mountain Rescue team was fundamental in his search and recovery and they risk their lives in awful conditions for 100′s of people each year,” says Bobby. “I went back up to Glencoe a few months ago to revisit the area where the accident occurred and as we were driving along a very beautiful Glen, we saw a battered old Land Rover that was Glencoe Mountain Rescue’s vehicle. That’s when I first thought how nice it would be if there was a Bowden Land Rover roaming around the area saving lives. Since then my friends and I have made it our mission to raise money for GMR to have a bespoke 4×4 rescue vehicle.”
Bobby and his friends and family wasted not time. So far the charity has raised £16,579.03, but to really boost fundraising, a new idea has come to the fore.
“Being a Land Rover, off-roading, Green Laning enthusiast I thought what better way to raise some money than by creating a 4×4 rally?” says Bobby.
We really hope you get involved, or if you’d just like to donate to Glencoe Moutnain Rescue, you can do so via this JustGiving page.
